Inexpensive and close hotels

If I have to pay for it myself, I usually stay at the EconoLodge @ 715 W. North Temple. It's about a 10-15 minute walk from the Salt Palace or they have a shuttle that can take you over if you time it right.

Since I am retired, I will have to pay my own way to BrainShare this
year. Any suggestions on a relatively inexpensive and either close to
the Salt Palace or close to the bus route? I stayed at the City Creek
Inn one year - don't want to repeat that...
