Hello,

For some reason, our Zenworks server (OES2 Linux) decides to unregister its bindery service from SLP (which runs on a NetWare 6.5 box) several times a day. We have a number of other servers that run OES2 and this is the only one having this problem.

I've compared slp.conf and slp.reg files between this OES2 box and our other OES2 boxes and there aren't any differences - SLP on all of our OES2 boxes is configured identically.

Strange thing is, I can re-register the offending server manually by stopping and starting slpd. The registration will last for an hour or two, then disappear again. We've set up a cron job on the offending server to do this for us, but I'd like to get to the root of the problem if possible.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

When I check the nssmu module it will not load. Tracked it down to namcd lum is not loaded and will not restart. I reverted back to my snap shot and all is working. I then tried upgrading to SLES sp3 and OES2 sp2 and had the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix it.

The funny thing is my test sever does not have this problem.

Hi All,

I have been noticing our OES servers consistently locking up. The only thing that indicates there is a issue is that there are a lot of cron and ps running when I do a ps -A. I can kill all the cron and ps jobs but it usually requires a reboot to restore the server to normal. Along with this on some servers I am seeing multiple rcnovell-tomcat running and shutting down tomcat via rcnovell-tomcat5 stop seems to hang, which causes the server to hang on reboot.

I have some servers with this problem running SEP Sesam client and Sophos AV but others that are showing similar issues do not have anything installed but OES and SLES.

I am running OES2 sp1b and SLES10.2, they are all fully patched.

Any ideas here? I also checked crontab -e and nothing shows up in there..

Not sure why this is giving me so much problem. I can't be the first and only one that has this configuration. 2 servers, 1 is a web server only and we have installed nrm and imanager and ifolder on this server. The other server has edir installed. We want to auth to this server using edir ldap from the web services on the web server; this works most of the time. The problem appears when we upgrade OES or edir or anything that requires config of edir/ldap to the edir server. Example:
upgrade to OES2 SP2 on the web server. Things are fine until the OES config from yast. Unable to bind to edir through ldap. In the ldap server section of OES config, there are the 2 ip addresses, 1 of the web server and the other from the edir server. We take out the web server address from this config/section and leave only the edir server ip. Make sure all the other sections have the edir server ip and upon "waiting for edir to come up" unable to bind to edir through ldap error. When we leave both ip's in the ldap config section everything works but we don't want to use the web server for edir auth. Surely there are others that have systems configured in such a manner? If so, please shed some light on this. If this is not clear, i will be happy to "webex" with someone to see exactly what is happening.

Hello,
We are ready to start migrating our NW 6.5 sp7 and 8 servers to OES2 L.
I am thinking of starting with a server that users don't depend on for printing and data.
I want to migrate our server that 1.holds the master replica of the root partition 2. is our reference timesync server 3. is the solo DA in SLP 4. and holds our legacy print queues. These print queues are services by NDPS print agents. The NDPS db and services are on another server to be migrated later.
I am not really concerned with the print queues. There are only 20-30 and I could recreate them on another server volume if I had to. But the other three
I am wondering about.
Should I move the master replica to another server?
Should I add another DA?
Should I have another server act as a reference time server?

I'm going to try this project in a test environment but wanted to see if anyone can offer any good advice. Thanks!
Dave

According to Novell documentation the only right way to patch OES2 is using the '-t patch' flag and also from the OES2 SP2 upgrade documentation:

"Install the move-to-oes2-sp2 patch on the server. This is an optional patch and will never be installed automatically."

Unfortunatly they do get selected automatically when you use 'rug up -t patch'.

So, how should we update our OES2 SP1 servers now? Just by omitting the '-t patch' flag?
