Hi,

a customer with OES2 Linux have a sister company with Windows 2003 server.
We want to access the Win 2003 DNS records (intern.example.com), DNS Server
is 172.16.100.1.
The OES2 DNS serves the zone example.local, 192.168.1.0/24.
I crated a forwarding zone on OES2 DNS and put the forwarder in place.

When I try to resolve a server in intern.example.com like
asterix.intern.example.com it will not work.

The log shows this error:

/var/log/messages:Nov 12 11:02:23 hlbs [NCPL]: transfer of
'intern.example.com/IN' from 172.16.100.1#53: failed to connect: timed out
/var/log/messages:Nov 12 11:02:23 hlbs [NCPL]: transfer of
'intern.example.com/IN' from 172.16.100.1#53: end of transfer
/var/log/messages:Nov 12 11:03:47 hlbs [NCPL]: transfer of
'intern.example.com/IN' from 172.16.100.1#53: shut down: operation canceled
/var/log/messages:Nov 12 11:03:47 hlbs [NCPL]: transfer of
'intern.example.com/IN' from 172.16.100.1#53: end of transfer

a "dig @172.16.100.1 asterix.intern.example.com" works without problems.

Do I have to change something on the Win 2003 DNS Server? Or did I overlook
something?

Thank you for your help.

Walter

what in detail is the difference between Novell CIFS and Novell Samba?
I always thought CIFS is the newer Version of SMB.

Why there are too services with the same functions !?

The next question I have is, why does Samba support CrossProtocolLocking for NCPConnections and CIFS not !? I read about it in a TID in NovellKB. So the support comes in OESSP2.

Maybe someone can explain it to me :-)

Thanx

Will setting the first_watchdog_packet to 5 on a SLES OES server cause it to send tcp keep-alive packets every five minutes (just as it does on a NetWare server)? If so, then why aren't my SLES servers sending out tcp keep-alive packets? If not, then how do I get my SLES servers to start sending out tcp keep-alive packets?

I have had the First_Watchdog_Packet set to 5 on both NetWare and SLES. According to Marcel Cox (a poster on this forum) but not according to the latest Novell documentation this should result in keep-alive packets sent from my SLES servers every five minutes.

Hello,
We have an oes2 server running Groupwise, dhcp and dns under OES.
Overnight it seems that all connections to web services quit working.
Also cannot connect via ssh.
Groupwise clients still connect no problem as well as Messenger. However Webaccess does not work.
Server is behind a firewall but cannot connect internally or externally.
Since I am not at that location, I had someone restart dns and dhcp and both started ok. Also had them ssh 127.0.0.1 at the physical console and it worked. At first I thought it might be Apache but since ssh does not connect either I'm not sure what to try next.
Thanks
