Hi All,

We are planning to move the servers. Once servers are moved we need to change the ip address. we have 3 server. One has master replica and other 2 are read-write replica. We are moving one of the read-write replica server. We have to change ip of this server. All the 3 servers are File servers. nothing else is installed.

All the servers are Netware 6.5 SP 7.

Could you let me know what changes I have to make after IP change. Do I have to make any change in master replica also. Even we are moving Master server week after this move. Please let me know how to go about it. As I am doing this for the first time

I have created a document for the same.

STEPS TO CHANGE THE IP ADDRESS
1.	Inecfg
Change the IP address and DNS entry.
Change the gate way

2.	Change the enteries in host file and hostname file
Sys\etc\host
Sys\etc\hostname

3.	Edit autoexec.ncf
Bindings/Mask
Default route

4.	Changes in Apache
Sys\adminsrv\conf
Change all the ip to reflect the new ip
4 places where the ip address needs to be changed

5.	No changes for ifolder and web access.

6.	LDAP/SSL
No change for LDAP
SSL certificates needs to be deleted (in our case we need to delete SSL CERTIFICATE IP as we changed only the ip. SSL CertificateDNS does not require any changes.
Once the SSL is deleted run PKIDIAG.NLM option 4 and 0

7.	Set dstace=*L
Execute a repair server address from DSrepair
Dsrepair –rn

8.	Find the replica ring holders | Advanced options menu | Replica and partition operations | note the partitions and gointo each replica ring. Note the server names of all ring members.

9.	Now repair network address for each server in the ring. dsrepair | adv. option | Servers known to this database | Enter on the server name | Repair selected server's network address | do this for each replica ring holder; for each Partition.

For eGuide you need to manually change the directories. properties and the new_data_source_dir_scheme.xml. These 2 files are listed under /SYS/tomcat/4/webapps/eGuide/WEB-INF/properties
10.	No changes to SLP scope as there is no SLP scope created in Master replica for Hyderlit2
11.	SLP:If you are running a SLP DA you can remove objects from the SLP Scope that reference services on the server to ensure this happens instantly.

Once this is done, execute a 'SET SLP RESET = ON' on the DA(s).
12.	Server SET parameters (also accessible via MONITOR.NLM):
set SLP include, exclude addresses if you have changed them from default settings.
set NCP include, exclude addresses if you have changed them from default settings.

2ND Method

Login to the NetWare Remote Manager (NRM) by going to https://IPorDNS:8009
Under the MANAGE SERVER section, click on CONFIGURE TCPIP | START TCPIP CONFIGURATION | TCP/IP TO INTERFACE BINDINGS.
Select the appropriate interface if there is more than one in the list.
Once in the interface, change the IP address and then click on SAVE.
** NOTE ** You may receive an error saying that the address is in use for the Portal. What it is saying is that you are currently using this address with the NetWare Remote Manager and if you reinitialize your system you will loose your connection. Do NOT reinitialize your system yet.
Click BACK and EXIT. You will then receive this message. Just click OK, we will reset the server in a minute.
Now go back to NRM and select IP ADDRESS MANAGEMENT under the MANAGE SERVER section. You will notice that there certain services that are specifically configured for the old IP address and they now show an INVALID in red. You will need to select the application link on the left hand side and change it to the new IP address. An example is shown in the next step.
Here we will click on the ApacheAdmin section and select the new IP address from the drop down list. Click APPLY to continue.
Perform this same IP address for any application in the list that still show the old IP address. ** NOTE ** After you change the first application, the other applications may not show invalid, however the will still show the old IP address. This is because we have not yet reinitialized the system. Don?t worry about this and just change the IP address in the other sections. One this is done, go to the DOWN/RESTART section under MANAGE SERVER and click on the RESET button to perform a RESET SERVER.
Note: Once this has been completed, it would be wise to perform a Limber process on the server. Do this by entering the following commands at the console prompt:
SET DSTRACE=ON
SET DSTRACE=NODEBUG
SET DSTRACE=+LIMBER
SET DSTRACE=*L
You should see and "End connectivity check, all OK" message on the Directory Services screen.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there a way to bring a server up into a new tree that was taken out of another a tree? Here is the scenario - for IDM testing a consultant asked me to create a netware server in our production tree and then to create a r/w replica of root on it. I did that. Then I was to just down it and remove the server from the production tree using iManger...again done. Now my question is how do I bring the server up into our test tree? I have installed many new servers into existing or new tree's but have never tried this before. I did change the ip address and router address along with hosts and hostname file's to point to ip's needed for test network. I booted up the server and it is hooked up to new tree but it can't talk to anything else in it....and I still get communication errors as it is trying to talk to servers in Production tree....

L.S.

I got a request to build redundancy into our timesync. This redundancy is mainly based to survive failure our own servers. Right now one Netware servers get's time from the internet. The rest of the network consults this server.

4 Netware 6.5(SP8) servers
1 OES2/Linux server

Only 2 servers can reach internet on port 123, one Netware, one Linux.

Configuration seemed strait forward to me:

1)
Configure one Netware server as Reference (or Primary). Point it to an external NTP server.
Configure the OES2/Linux server for the same external NTP server

2)
Configure all other Netware servers for both the previously mentioned machines.

Part one succeeded. I even checked if ntp is working on the OES2/Linux (watch "ntpq -p")

In part 2, I get a problem:
I use timesync, with configured sources:
netware; linux:123;

On the debug screen I see one synchronisation, then only "poll started"

I tried to configure only the OES2/Linux, same result.

If I turn back to our original configuration (just one netware server in the reference list) the debug screen get's filled with nic synchronisation messages.

What could be wrong.
On VMWare ESX 3.5.0 110268

I am tring to update one of our virtual servers to Support Pack 8.

But file operation performance on the server is dreadful, it's been going for nearly 2 hrs and only unpacked about 1/3 of the support pack. The copy to the system took ages too.

I can't see anything obviously wrong, Our other virtual server with Groupwise unpacked the file in a fairly normal amount of time.

I tried to start the upgrade last night as well ( although I think all the files had not completed the copy that time ) and the system hung at 11% of the backup stage for so long that I decided it was probably never going to finish.

the only difference I can think of between the two servers is that one has Groupwise and the one with the issue has Zenworks 7.x

I know the usual 1st port of call is to Support pack the machine. But obviously this is a Chicken Vs Egg situation...

Any ideas

Hi, I am rather new to Novell, years ago where I worked I used NW6.5 years ago but at a "beginners" admin level and the the company I now work for have 2 X NW6.5 servers and they would like to upgrade to OES2.

Instead of upgrading the NW6.5 install to OES2 is it possible to make a fresh OES2 install and then migrate he NW6.5 backup data directly to the OES2 installations, will this then restore the tree etc..

Has anyone got any recommendations as to what I should do.

MANY THANKS and apologies if this seems a dumb question - it's GREAT to have a break away from MS though :)

Hello All,
I am looking to find out if anyone is running NW65SP8 on the following hardware platform:
2 Dell PE 2850’s with QLogic 2340 FC HBA’S attached to a Dell/EMC CX 500
My scenario is that I am running NW65sp5, with Groupwise 7.0.1 in a 2 node cluster.
GWIA and Web Access on one node and PO on the second node.
I want to upgrade to NW65sp8 prior to upgrading Groupwise to 8.0
The issue I have is that NW65sp8 is not certified or tested on my hardware versions per EMC Documentation. The latest certified patch is sp6.
Has anyone had any success/failure running sp8 in this configuration?
I think the only place that I could have an issue is with the QLogic Driver for Netware.
Any info or experiences provided are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I am having trouble getting the Novell Migration Wizard to migrate two NetWare 6.5 servers. It is having trouble with SMS connectivity. The question is that do both servers have to be on the same VLAN? The servers are at different locations and on different networks.

Any thoughts will be appreicated.

What can I do to minimize these effects?

Thanks in advance for aour answers.

Best regards.

Greetings. I *think* this is more of a Netware 6 (sp5) problem than a Groupwise 6 issue.

We had to hard boot the server the other day after a RAID drive failed. Server came back up just fine, why it locked up entirely though we are not sure.

Since then, we are not able to adminstrate the GW server. When first found this out when we brought up C1 and it could not connect to the wpdomain.db file. We first tried to map \\GROUPWISE6\GROUPWISE to a drive letter but it would not work. We can browse the directories with UNC paths but the Novell map util says "path cannot be found".

We tried to connect to the wpdomain with UNC paths (even the extra slashes version) and then it brings up a separate Windows-style login, even though Novell Connections says I'm already authenticated as administrator.

(see http://image.pollstar.com/email/gw.jpg)

Next we noticed the _admin volume is completely unavailable. A wide variety of errors from not having rights to network path cannot be found.

When we fire up C1, we can browse the "properties" of the GW server but cannot manage the disks. This is what we see when trying to do "Disk Management":

(see http://image.pollstar.com/email/gw2.jpg)

We can browse files structures such as GROUPWISE6_GROUPWISE just fine.

Overall, the GW6 server is chugging along fine. But we can't add users until we get this resolved.

We are not Netware or Groupwise experts here. This server was setup unknown years ago by unknown people and we've inherited it. *Please* help and please, be gentle :)
