I have a SLES10.1 box that I was in the process of upgrading to 10.2 using the DVD iso's. I started the process and it installed the first DVD but when I went to the second DVD, discovered the DVD was bad and it abended the install.

So I downloaded a fresh copy of both ISO's but this time I thought instead of messing with physical media, I'd just mount both ISO's as installation sources. So I copied both file with the original names (SLES-10-SP2-DVD-i586-GM-DVDx.iso) to a location on my server's hard drive and went into yast. Went into installation sources, chose directory, selected the iso checkbox and pointed it to the first ISO. According to the help in that screen, I don't need to add the second ISO individually.

So now that I've done that, when I go into software management, I can add/remove programs from that particular install source.

But I'm concerned that the original 10.1 to 10.2 upgrade only half completed. What can I do to restart it or force it to complete now that I've got both ISO's sitting on the disk?

when I try to run a suse_register after running the client4smtsetup.sh or whatever, I get this error:

Execute curl command failed with '60':
curl: (60) SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details:
error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed
More details here: cURL - Details on Server SSL Certificates

curl performs SSL certificate verification by default, using a "bundle"
of Certificate Authority (CA) public keys (CA certs). The default
bundle is named curl-ca-bundle.crt; you can specify an alternate file
using the --cacert option.
If this HTTPS server uses a certificate signed by a CA represented in
the bundle, the certificate verification probably failed due to a
problem with the certificate (it might be expired, or the name might
not match the domain name in the URL).
If you'd like to turn off curl's verification of the certificate, use
the -k (or --insecure) option.

Quite strange

I've looked at download.novell.com & support.novell.com & even Googled for it.

I'm just looking for SP3 itself so I can install it against existing SLES 10 SP2 servers.

Does this exist? If so, why is it so hard to find? Where are the release notes & install instructions?

I would ask here if I could find it easily.
Thanks much!

Dear all,

I registered an SLES10 machine using the suse_register command and synced the repos from ru.novell.com from Yast. The current kernel is :
2.6.16.60-0.21-default

I cannot find kernel revision 2.6.16.60-0.30 in the Suse repos.,
This is the version that I have been asked to provide.

The official Suse documentation states that 2.6.16.60-0.30 is available for x86_64 here:
Kernel versions - CoolSolutionsWiki
Its lised under SLES 10.2, Oct-01-2008, 2.6.16.60-0.30.

Was this removed from the repos for a particular reason, or am (more than likely) I looking in the wrong place or the wrong way?

Regards, z.

PS. I had posted in the Virtualisation sub-forum,. but this sub-forum is actually more approriate because it is no longer a Virtualisation related question.

Problem: You clone your servers or image them (for instance on vmware), and you have configured them to register against an SMT server. On the SMT server, all servers are registered with the same Unque ID and then, you are unable to have the correct list (only one server appears).

Solution:
- Go under /etc/zmd , on each client server
- rename or delete deviceid and secret
- restart zmd
- run again suse_register

Then on SMT, type : smt-list-registrations.
You will then see your server registered with a brand new computed Unique ID.

Question apart (customer request): Does SMT able to push back client server info into the customer center for updated list in the systems regsitered ?

Hi.

In the scenaio of multiple SLES boxes scattered all over the country, and not connected in any way, if these have been initially configured and registered via YAST and linked to our Novell logon, what happens when the support/update licence expires for these? Is it simply a case of renewing the expired licence(s) on the Novell site within our account (where we can see the servers listed), or does a visit have to be made to each and every server every time they expre or are close to renewal? As you can see, we want to avoid having to visit the individual boxes, and control it all centrally.

Make sense? Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I am running SLES10 SP2 and have been asked by my users to install perl 5.10 on the server and am looking for the 'proper' way to upgrade the product. (I am a newb at Linux support so please bear with me).

I thought that I should deinstall perl 5.8.0 (came with the system) and then install the new version. I researched a deinstall and found that rpm says that almost all of the installed packages (yast, samba, etc.) require perl. Thus, I didn't think that I should deinstall perl 5.8.0 so I just proceeded to install 5.10.0.

I am not able to use a pre-built package as my server is zLinux running on an IBM mainframe. I downloaded the source for perl 5.10.0 and followed the installation steps. The process installed the perl 5.10 executable in /usr/local/bin. The 5.8.8 version of perl is in /usr/bin/perl. When perl is invoked the server finds the 5.10 version as /usr/local/bin preceeds /usr/bin/perl in the PATH.

Is there anything else that I should do or should have done differently?

mirroring itself works fine.
I suspected first the proxy but no changes from months.
Investigating, i found the following error in my apache log:

Code:

[Tue Nov 10 09:58:03 2009] [error] Unknown command: regdata
[Tue Nov 10 10:00:07 2009] [error] Unknown command: listregistrations

This error comes from the perl script called by apache :

Code:

[10/Nov/2009:09:58:03 +0100] 192.168.10.254 TLSv1 DHE-RSA-AES256-SHA "POST /center/regsvc?command=regdata&lang=en-US&version=1.0 HTTP/1.1" 1070 "-" "-"

So, it appears that the perl script fails without any further error message.

Did anybody experienced the same ?
Does anybody has a clue on how to solve this ?

Thx

I figured oh, well, just run the clientSetup4SMT.sh and suse_register again, right?

Well, that didn't give any errors, but a rug sl still only shows my install sources and no longer shows my SMT server anymore

Do I need to restart or edit something?

I upgraded from SLES10 SP1 to SLES10 SP2 by using the CD instead of the service pack update found in the updates listing in Yast. Anyway, the upgrade to SP2 went fine. However, now when I look at "Online Updates" in Yast I am seeing a number of SLES10-SP1 patches with an error symbol that indicates "Dependencies Broken". I'm not sure what to expect when I try and update the patches on this SLES10 Linux server. Will it just use the SLES10-SP2 patches and ignore the others that have this "dependencies broken" message (and are checked) or should I manually uncheck all of these packages before trying to patch the system? Please post any information you have as I am new to the SLES patching process and what to expect.

Thanks!
