Hello,

I am looking to set up a SLES 11 XEN Host with VM's on two different networks. The host has connections to both a 192. and 10. network and one of the VM's will be on a 10. network and the other VM's will be on the 192. network. The guests are/will be SLES10SP2 OES2SP1 servers. I can access the Host Dom 0 and the guest on the 10. net fine. I have set the bridges up with numbers from each of the networks. In the past I have been able to setup bonding, but for this one server I need to have some of the VM's in the DMZ (the 192. net). When using the bridge that is connected to the 192. net, I can ping guest to host and host to guest, but cannot ping anything off of the box, and nothing off of the box can ping either of the 192. numbers. My first question is related to setting up the default gateway on the Host. As each of the network adaptors connect to different networks, I would think I would need a different default gateway on each, but see that I can only have one entry. Am I missing something?

Below is a brctl show and ifconfig of it.

Hello,

I downloaded both SLES10SP2 and OES2SP1 from the Novell site this day.

I installed SLES on the physical machine, then installed Xen, re-booted into Xen, and then created and installed SLES into a virtual machine from the DVD (cannot remember whether full or para-, cannot find out where to look to answer that question).

I then intended to install OES2 into the new vm. I first tried to create a virtual CD mapping using Vmm Machine details, add new hardware, partition /dev/cdrom. This comes back with (Xend.error 'Device 51728 not connected'). It doesn't matter whether there's a CD/DVD in the drive or not. This is odd, because I setup another vm with WindowsXP, and it sees and operates the CDROM drive just fine thank you.

I then copied the CD as an ISO into the root of the Dom0 file system. Going back to the SLES Vmm machine details, I tried again to create a virtual CD mapping, this time selecting the ISO file just created. Same error.

So I'm hog-tied. I cannot get my SLES vm to read either a physical or virtual CD/DVD, so I can install OES2. Here I sit, all virtualized up and no place to go.

Ideas? Thanks,
Donovan

Hi

I'm trying to create a SLES Virtualization documenter tool which will document all virtual machines hosted on. I'm using libvirt to connect to SLES Xen and get the details. I'm not able to get the IP address of all virtual machines but i can only the MAC address alone. Also, i'm not able to differentiate operating systems of virtual machines. If the virtual machine is "Linux", i can see it. But if the virtual machine is based on Windows, i'm not able to get exact operating system details.

My questions are

How to get the real operating system of virtual machines using libvirt API?

How to get the IP address of virtual machines using libvirt API?

Dear all,

Scenario
I have to move a xen guest onto a pshycial machine. I have created the disc partitions and rsycned the xen guest onto the new machines, and hacked in a kernel from another machine and it boots, as expected. The xen was a SLES 10 x86_64, and I have used a kernel from an OpenSuse 11 x86_64 machine just to get it up and running.

The next step is to hack in the correct kernel, one that is closest to the xen guest kernel, and then drop in the kernel-base-* and associated rpms, and idealily use zypper to resolve the dependancies.

The xen guest has: 2.6.16.60-0.27-xen (SLES 10.2 x86_64)
and the new machine is currently booted from 2.6.27.19-3.2-default taken from OpenSuse 11.something.

The question
Where is the repository for the Novell SLES RPMs? (We have paid support but I cannot find the site, or perhaps I have not linked this profile to the company.)

I have to use ones that are compressed with BZIP instead of LZM, because I seem to remember there was a change of compression used on the RPMs either on OpenSuse 10 -> 11 or SLES 10 -> 11.

I would be really greatful if someone would offer some URLs /pointers to the right place. I doubt that I am the first to do this, so any idea would be great.

Best regards and, of course, thank-you in advance,
Me.

PS. I don't want to install the machine from scratch because this would take along time to build, and be difficult to do. We really need an easy way to port from xen guest to real machine, and this method is quite easy to do, other than locating the correct RPMs.

Hi;
Are there any available open sourced or licensed gui's which are fully compatible with Xen and handles all xen commands. (like xm migrate, create, mem-set etc). Normally i could handle classic xen commands with Suse's classic yast interfaces and other remaining commands like xen migrate are using Xen HA extension cluster gui. Normally Novell Orchestrator handles all these commands but i want to know if there any other gui's which could fully control all Xen features. It could be freeware, opensource or licensed and also i want to know user experiences and considerations about other Xen Gui's on the internet.

Thanks
Özhan

hi guys,

we have running sles11 and xen3.4.0 with convirt.

we have many domU running created with vm-install and clone one finished to other domUs. The harddisk of the domU is created with file. i want now create a new domU with tap:aio on local disk. This doesnt work.

i created it with vm-install. The setup start and hardware probing was ok. But than by formatting the harddisk the setup hangs at 8% and never finished. after 30 minutes waiting a decided to kill this setup. And now i cant start any domU (file-based harddis) on this server. i must restart. after that i can start filebased harddisk domUs. but no tap:aio - based domU.
