Our ZCM imaging server currently has 1 NIC on our primary network, and we have PXE multicast imaging working fine on this network.

This server has the proxy DHCP service running on it, DHCP is housed on another seperate server, and our Nortel switches are configured with an IP helper/forwarded to allow all this to work.

We are now in the process of expanding our ZCM setup into one of our subsidiary companies, and the easiest solution to allow this is to add a 2nd NIC to this server to allow multicast on this second network.

The documentation is a bit confusing about how we should set this up, so I am looking for some guidance.

We've tried to modify the file Novell\Zenworks\Conf\Preboot\novell-proxydhcp.conf, and the line that talks about LocalInterface to point to the primary server IP address of the 1st NIC, but after stopping and restarting the services, this breaks imaging on the working side of the network.

Is there an alternative to this approach? I'd like to try and avoid using satellite server(s) as there are about 400 machines on this second network to be supported.

I know I could out another server on this other network, but we'd also like to avoid this if possible? we already have 4 virtual servers in place so these should be sufficient for bundle delivery / asset inventory etc, its just trying to get imaging working on this second network...

Anyone got any ideas?

If a managed device's hard drive died and after replacing a new hard drive and restored an image that contains just the OS to this hard drive. The device will keep its original hostname. However, when I add the device back to the Zone, I want it to use the old Device GUID so that it will get back all the bundles that they have assigned. How can I do that?
The problem is that I also need it to put an addon-image after the base image is done. How can I set this up and is it even possible? I have tried everything but no resolution yet.

I am looking to find a way to automate the process of imaging a computer either by create Boot CDs, DVDs, or second partition on the HD. I would prefer using Boot CDs as the computers that this process will be done to don't have DVD-Rom or greater drivers. What I am looking for is to create a boot CD that a user can boot off of and it will automatically start imaging the computer and restart after it has finish imaging. The image that I plan to use will be at least a couple of GBs in size.

this is not a ZCM question but does anyone out there know if it is possible to launch commands after second login after sysprep?
I have set up device drivers to install in the [GuiRunOnce] section but one of those drivers forces a reboot after it's installed so the cleanup script that is set to launch last in the [GuiRunOnce] sections never runs... So is it possible to have this cleanup script to run on the second login somehow?

We're having issues getting ZCM to image under Parallels on a MacOS computer. It seems it is having issues getting DHCP under the PXE/linux environment.

We can successfully PXE boot and the imaging environment finds a driver using a RealTek RTL-8029 (ne2k-pci) automatically. The issue is when it attempts to perform a DHCP it does not obtain an IP address and there is connectivity when you perform check via ifconfig.

Can anyone provide insight?

Hi

I'm just trying out some things with Windows XP and ZCM 10.2.1
What I'm finding is that if I put down an image( ZCM Imaging) on a brand new PC (it has adaptive agent installed with zac fsg -d) then whilst the device registers in the zone correctly, the ISD is not being updated correctly (no netbios name, dns name, sid) and is only populated if I clear the ISD (via ziswin) Then I find that the Windows SID is the same as the one from the PC I took the image from.
I was under the impression that if there was no ISD then ziswin would generate a new sid (I'm pretty sure it did that in zfd)
I should say that I am testing this on Vmware devices which may have some bearing on writing the ISD.
Just wondered if anybody else had come across this.

Thanks

Summary:

If the file size of the "%zenworks_home%\share\tftp\pxemenu.txt" file grows larger that 4KB, I receive the error: "ProcessPXEMenu: TFTP Read File failed".

Question:

How can I increase the size limit so the TFTP can read a "pxemenu.txt" larger than 4KB?

Detail:

Server information:
- Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 SP2 (fully patched)
- ZENworks Configuration Management 10.2.1
- ZENworks Configuration Management 10.2.1 - October 2009 imaging driver update installed

I have determined that it is the size of the file that is the limiting factor. I can have 200 lines in the file as long as the file size stays below 4KB (4,096 bytes). As soon as the file size goes above 4,096 bytes, then the "Size on Disk" must raise to 8KB (8,192 bytes) since the block size on the hard disk is 4KB. At this point I no longer have access to my menus, and I receive the error "ProcessPXEMenu: TFTP Read File failed".

I have a standard image file that contains the Windows XP OS and it has a c:\sysprep folder. I configured the PC with Windows XP SP3 and powered off the PC. PXE boot and put the image on the ZCM imaging server. Then on a new hardware, I PXE boot and restore the image to the new PC. After the new PC boots up, I ran sysprep and after another reboot, I name the computer the name I want it to be i.e. marketingPC. Ran discovery and deployment tasks to install ZCM agent on the device. I then associate the bundles that I want to be installed on the managed device.

Now if the PC has problem and I need to reimage the PC. What is the best way to do? I tried to reimage the PC using the above steps but keep the managed device object in ZCC, the restored image won't register with ZCC. I have to delete the managed device object in ZCC and run discovery and deployment tasks to create the device again. I wonder how others re-image PC.

I am running ZCM 10 SP2 on SLES10 SP2.

Thanks in advance.

ZCM Imaging - Unable to Connect to Preboot Server

Hi

I'm getting an error when attempting to image using ZCM and the boot CD image. I have not defined a settings.txt file, instead use the manual settings and enter the server IP when prompted.

I get the error:

Unable to connect to Preboot Server
The Product Licence might have expired

When I subsequently exit out of the imaging frontend it crashes with a Segmentation Fault.

Part of the problem is that I don't know where to look for the specific log files to start the problem solving and my other issue is that Novell do not supply either a tool nor the software to edit the Bootcd ISO to insert the Settings.txt file. Unless I am missing something?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Zen7 Imaging to external HDD

Hi There,

I have a question regarding Zenwork Imaging. We received new HP dc7900 with mirrored Hard Drive and I have got no chance to get an image done via the network as Zenworks(SP8) does not recognize the network card. So I looked around for an alternative and I found how to create an image on an external hard drive USB connected (How to Store a ZENworks Image to a Local USB Hard Drive | Novell User Communities)

After several tries I managed to make an image on this external hard drive but once I want to restore it I get several error messages like “No Partition is active” or “NTLDR missing” after the BIOS boot as if nothing was loaded. I used GParted to check the hard drive partition and I activated the one where has the image restored but no way to boot before the restore.

We would like to use Zenworks for imaging only.

Any help would be very welcome.
