Problems restarting services

I've been having some problems when recycling some of the zcm services on SLES and was wondering if anyone else has been running into this problem.

Here are the commands that I'm running, in the order that I'm running them.

/etc/init.d/novell-zenmntr stop
/etc/init.d/novell-zenloader stop
/etc/init.d/novell-zenserver stop
/etc/init.d/sybase-asa stop
/etc/init.d/sybase-asa start
/etc/init.d/novell-zenserver start
/etc/init.d/novell-zenloader start
/etc/init.d/novell-zenmntr start

The problem that I'm having is that the Sybase database doesn't seem to start. I don't get any errors when running the start command but if I do a '/etc/init.d/sybase-asa status' I get an unused status back and I can't log into ZCC. The weird thing is that if I completely recycle (init 6) the server everything comes up normally, including the database.

All this server does is run a vanilla install of ZCM 10.2 with the internal Sybase database.

Any suggestions?

Default closest server rule

We have 3 ZCM servers and use closest server rules for different subnets, but what are the best practices for the default closest server rule?

I thought I read somewhat that if you create a group and place all your ZCM servers inside it acts like load balancing. Is this true?

I currently have all 3 servers in a folder for each role; Collection, Content, and Configuration.

HI All,

Right very new to ZCM AND no lab to test.....BUT here is my issue, is there now why were i can assgin rights (that be admin/or device or bundle etc right) for a particular user to only a particular Device, Folder, Device Group etc.... i thought with tmy second server , linking to the Primary ZONE, i would be able to set a certain user to manage devices, managed by this server only?.....PLEASE PELASE tell me this is possible, we have regions and WE cannot have Admins on diffirent region manage other admin's devices!!!!...

replacing first primary server with second primary server

I am replacing the first primary server with the second primary server.
Everthing is working and seems ok.
only

I've done the following export Certificate Autority from the first primary server
Replace it on the second primary server.
Closest server dafault rule changed placed the second primary server at the top. ( Collection Server content Servers and Configuration servers )
Refresh my servers and devices so the get the new Closest server dafault rule
After thar i retire the first primary server and uninstall this server.

Everthing works fine but when i look at the existing clients.
It shows

ZENworks Server Properties
Property Value
Management Zone: TEST
Server DNS: Server.local
Server Address: 172.16.15.59

This are the setting of the old first primary server that not exits any more.
strange, everything works properly

When i deploy a new client

ZENworks Server Properties
Property Value
Management Zone: TEST
Server DNS: Server1.local
Server Address: 172.16.15.60
This are the right settings of the replaced server.

Sybase SQL Anywhere on SLES11

Does anyone know if SLES11 is a supported OS to run Sybase SQL Anywhere 10.0.1 for the ZCM database? This is what I have found on the Sybase website and it looks like it is supported, is anyone else running ZCM sybase on SLES11?

ZCM embedded database data password

I am working with the ZCM 10.3 Beta release in a test environment. The
system is installed on a SLES 11 stand-alone server. I need to be able to
export data from the Sybase embedded database to an external application.
Nowhere in the setup/installation was I asked about a user or password for
the database.

After some hairpulling, gnashing of teeth, and Google searching, I
determined (I think) that the default username for the database is
"zenadmin" and that the database name is "zenworks_",
but I have been unable to find out where the default password is set and
what it is. The "superuser" password for the Administrator user does not
seem to work. Is there some sort of default password that is used? If so,
what is it, and, if not, where does it come from. I did manage to find the
dbaccounts.properties file in /etc/opt/novell/zenworks/datamodel folder,
but, of course the password in there is obfuscated/encrypted. There is also
apparently a Catalog name which also starts with "zenworks_" and may be the
same as the database name, but I don't find any information on that either.

And before someone suggests that I open a ticket with Novell Support, we are
under the ALA contract and do not have any support tickets to burn.

Trying to update to 10.2.1

I'm trying to update to 10.2.1 using the System Updates tab under
Configuration as specified in the ZCM documentation.

Here is what happens:
I check the 10.2.1 update
Click Action -> Deploy Updates To Devices

Note: The Update for ZCM (10.2.1)
update requires the following update(s) to be applied before it can be
deployed:
Support Pack 2 for ZCM (10.2)

ZCM already reports 10.2.0.0 as the version, ZAM Version 10.2.0.22715
ZPM Version 10.2.0.968

/etc/opt/novell/zenworks/version.txt reports 10.2.0.25097

The only thing I can think of is that I use to have a 2nd server in the
zone, and maybe that hasn't been correctly, or totally removed. Is
there a way I can check to make sure this server is complete removed?

Any other solutions to this problem?

ZCM External Sybase Database

I am just starting to look into the ZCM10 intallation. Based on what I've read, I am going to install a separate virtual SLES server just for the external Sybase database.

Does the external sybase come included with the ZCM server install or do I need to install is separately? Do you know where I can find some documentation on installing the external Sybase database and maybe some additional management information such as troubleshooting and backups.

User Source through LDAP Issue

Hi,

Is anyone having problem connecting to your LDAP server for the User Source?
Everytime I try to complete the wizard for the LDAP connection, it gave me
"The wizard cannot continue for the following reasons: An internal error
occured. Please check the tomcat log file for more information".

I know there is nothing wrong with the LDAP server because we have multiple
apps currrently using it. What could be wrong? I have the same settings in
the previous 10 version with no problem but I'm having issue with version
10.2.1.

Unable to baseline 10.2.0 System Update

I have the following questions:

1. Is there a supported migration path from an internal embedded Sybase DB to an external MS-SQL 2005 database ?

2. We currently have ZCM 10.2.0 installed on all Primary Servers and most workstations but we are unable to baseline the System Update. I have already toggled all pending workstations to ignore but it still will to reach the baselined state (stuck at "downloaded"). How can I force the 10.2.0 System Update to a baselined state so I can apply the 10.2.1 System Update

Third Party SSL Certificate Installation
