I work for a University in NYC. Lately is seems that my managers are leaning towards migrating off of Edirectory/OES and moving to Active Directory/Windows. I am totally against this for the following reasons:

1. We have a large investment in Novell technology (Edirectory, Netware/Linux, Zenworks for Desktops, Identity Manager, Groupwise, iPrint, etc.).
2. My expertise is in Novell technology. I've been a Netware Admin since v3.10. This is not to say I cant manage Windows. I currently manage all our Windows services as well (Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, SQL, WSUS, etc.). I think any IT Admin today can manage Windows services.
3. Many of the services our IT department provides are tied into Edirectory in one way or another wether it be ldap authentication, file/print, email, Password management, User account creation, etc.
4. Novell has much more experience in the Directory Services.
5. Other standard points are that Netware/Linux servers run longer than Windows servers without requiring a reboot, have less issues with virus', less vulnerabilities, etc.

My managers continue to bring up rather good points and I'm having trouble debating them on some of these points. For example:

1. Most software and services being manufactured primarily and easily integrate into Windows and Active Directory. The Novell integration usually involves extra steps.
2. Backup support is shrinking. We currently use HP Data Protector because Backup exec stopped supporting Netware.
3. Why use a third party to manage Windows Desktop Group Policies.

Has anyone out there had to debate these issues with thier managers and have any advice for me on how successfully debate my position?
