04-Sep-2009 04:36 PM

  • Method 1: During install
Near the end of the SLED install, there is a page "User Authentication Method" where the install requests the method of authenticating to the desktop. The user has the following options:</p>
    • Local (etc/passwd)
    • LDAP
    • NIS
    • Windows Domain
    1. Select the "Windows Domain" method of authentication
    2. Under "Domain or Workgroup", enter the name of the AD/DSFW domain you wish to join (e.g. example.com)
    3. Click Finish
    4. Enter the credentials of the "administrator" of the domain.
    5. Now the SLED workstation joined successfully to DSFW domain.
  • Method 2: Post install Perform the following steps after completing the SLED install:

    1. Open Yast -> Windows Domain Membership
    2. Under "Domain or Workgroup", enter the name of the AD/DSFW domain you wish to join (e.g. example.com)
    3. Click Finish
    4. Click "Join"
    5. Enter the credentials of the "administrator" of the domain.
    6. Now the SLED workstation joined successfully to DSFW domain.
When you get the login screen, you should have two boxes

  • One for entering the User Name
  • One for entering the Domain
Choose the DSFW option from the box and Login to the SLED machine using the DSFW administrator user.

While joining the SLED10 you need to make the following options

  • Use SMB information for Linux authentication
  • Create home directory on join
  • offline Authentication
