CNA - Great Foundation
I have seen people asking questions about what it takes to pass the CNA and what exactly the benefits will be.. In my case I took the CNA to prove my ability to apply and understand concepts inside a Novell Enterprise environment.
Novell has provided a great NOS. Anyone with an IT background can jump into and begin using it productively.
After studying and passing the CNA it unleashes more concepts and abilities that Novell has to offer. From the implementation of your first or newest Netware server to best practices for file structure and security it delivers and overwhelming amount of data and reinforcement to make you a better administrator, troubleshooter, and user.
The CNA covers a lot of information on a variety of topics. This is because it is the footing for advancement into new certification ladders. For any company that uses Novell the CNA is a good investment in any employee, especially those new to the Novell ways.
The latest also provides information and instruction on I-Manager, which benefits/helps some people make the switch from primarily administrating with NWAdmin and ConsoleOne to the current web based method, I-Manager.
Facts on my CNA:
Study Time - I had minimal book / written review for the exam. I found / purchased a book containing a few practice tests which I used to warm up for the exam style / method of testing. I spent less than 12 hours reviewing for the exam.
Experience (Before Exam) - 6 months inside a fully Novell based environment. I had the luck of constant advice and mentoring from Sr. Administrators which provided unimaginable amounts of information on Novell.
While your experience and study time will differ I'm confident that with information and study materials Novell provides anyone wanting to become CNA certified has the opportunity.
Let me know if this helps you in gaining your CNA or deciding to pursue it! I love feedback.
Again these are my thoughts and experiences on the CNA. I hope it can help someone decide it's a good choice for them.
