Message recipient delivery status

Is there a way to grab the status of whether or not an email was 'delivered', 'transferred', 'transferred failed', etc. which is under the 'action' column of the properties tab of a sent message?
We integrated the ability to email documents out of our host system, and I'd like to be able to have the system check the outgoing mail and email an adminstrator when any emails have failed to reach their intended recipients. I've checked the documentation and can't seem to locate the ability to do this.
