LDAP and Websense

I'm not proficient with LDAP. That being said, I am wondering if anyone has had any success or can share any tips or caveats.
My supervisor is trying to get Websense hooked into eDirectory 8.7.3.9. I have installed LDAP services on a server we are trying to access. When we do a query through an LDAP browser, we are unable to successfully authenticate.
Also, in iManganer when we look at the admin user security page, it mentions that LDAP extensions are not installed.
I unchecked the box TLS/SSL during the install because Websense tech support says the product can't connect if it is used.
I was able to install LDAP services on another server in the same tree with TLS/SSL for NetStorage/iFolder access. I believe it is working on that server.
