I've got a project that is really tempting me to put my first
OES 2 server in our tree. Up to this point, we have all NetWare 6.0 and 6.5 servers running eDirectory 8.7.3.9. From the research I've done,
OES 2 installs eDirectory 8.8 and all the advice I've seen says not to run these mismatched directory versions in the same tree.
My question is, what will happen if I do? We want to use iFolder 3.7 and have our existing eDirectory users authenticated to it. We are likely on a path that will lead to replacing all of our NetWare 6.0 servers with
OES 2 (Linux) by the end of next year, but nothing is in stone yet. Given that time frame, what bad things could come of this or is there any reason to even worry?
One thing that could be important is we currently only have one partition in our tree at the root. We haven't seen a need to divide any further because in general we are a pretty low change environment with only about 25 servers. Does that change the response?
