ldap compare,,,groups in dc containers not working

I am having problems doing an ldap compare(initially found this out as
apache kepting failing on an ldap group check) if a group is in a dc
container:

cn=group,dc=acme,dc=com
If you do an ldap compare to see if uid=jeff is in that group(and he is) it
will still return false

cn=group,o=acme
Here the compare will work.

I am running edir 8737. Anyone seeing this behavior in DC's??
