If we're talking about web based applications and you want to be IE
independent, this leaves very much Java and .NET to go with, though you
might also consider scripting with Perl/PHP etc
Being familiar with NWDir, you might find the Novell Beans
(
http://developer.novell.com/document.../h3viqchc.html)
an easy migration path.
Other than that you can also accomplish your task with lower level APIs like
the LDAP and JNDI Java libraries.
