I ws able 2 resolve this issue and successfully execute ndsconfig by appending the LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable with /opt/novell/eDirectory/lib.

Note: The Novell eDir SP2 install guide instructs to append /opt/novell/eDirectory/lib/sparcv9... but I guess thats insufficient to make ndsconfig run successfully.. at least in my case it was so..
