Simple password sync to Universal

Hi,
I am trying to get afp working on SLES OES 2 file server. I did get afp working properly. However i seem to need to login with my accounts 1 time on a xp machine. Then it seems to sync with my universal password. Then i can login using afp.
I have set the afp to cleartext options in imanager. SHould this then use simple password like netware does?
Is there a way to sync these passwords so that a user is not required to log into xp??
