Remove old post offices - mshold has 200,000 records

I have a couple of old post offices that have been offline for months.
The mta takes forever to load because the mshold folder for this post office has 200,000 changes and updates.

If I remove this post office will the mta quit reading the associated folder in the mta mshold folder ???
