Server utilization 100%

Our users have been complaining of GW running extremely slowly for nearly 2 weeks now.
Yesterday the server ran out of space. This appeared to have been caused by 2 users who had setup a forward to an external email account and the user of the external email account had setup an out of office. This caused around 500,000 emails due to emails constantly going backwards and forwards.
That issue has now been sorted but server utilization is today at 100% and Groupwise is virtually impossible to use.
Any ideas ?
