Default Clients reporting slowness

I have users reporting slowness on client functions such as openging address book, switching folders, etc. Below are the configuration and status for POA. I have about 1,300 to 1,500 persons on this postoffice but I noticed that the Physical Connections is always over 100k. I do have maybe 50 blackberries and a dozen iPhones (using IMAP from another server). Also the Database File Cache is always at 500. I could not find where I could increase this amount. The server is Windows 2003 std, 4 GB RAM, plenty of disk space, GB NIC, dual QUAD core processors, hardware is bandnew with 512 MB cache on the disk controller and I cannot find any performance problems from the OS or HP server homepage status.

Any tweaks or recommendations that may help with client performance? I have tried adjust a few things on POA but most should be set to default. I hae 5 other GW servers in similar boat but this one has the "extreme" number of Physical Connections.

GW on server is 7.0.3 HP3
GW on clients range from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3 (about 2/3 are at 7.0.3 HP2 or higher)
