Exchange Gateway

We have 4 school districts that all had GroupWise and used external domains for connections. This summer we had a defector that went to exchange.

I'm not sure I am reading the Exchange Gateway directions correctly, it seems to me that the exchange server and GroupWise server need to be located together.

We are on completely separate networks across town. Am I missing something?
