Update ..

The issue does not appear to be at the remote end but another MTA in
another office that has a bunch of files in the MSHOLD folder of the MTA

When it tries to send them, this meesage is logged

The files are encrypted so it's hard to tell what they are.

Finally, If I change the link from Direct to Indirect and pass messages
through another (3rd) office, all works well - the messages process as
normal

Here's the log when the MTA's are connecting in Direct mode
