Sync Options for GroupWise 8

I am helpdesk anlayst for a small college in MI and we are looking to upgrade our GroupWise clients to version 8. We currently have GW 7 installed and some of our users have pda's in which they can sync with using the PDA connect software. I understand that PDA connect is not supported and is no longer shipping with GW8, but I am curious as to what options are available for synching PDA devices (wireless capable/non-wireless), smart phones, and black berry devices. I am aware of the BES stuff and we currently have a small group utilizing that. Can someone tell me if a cable option is available for synching or if the GMS is really the only way to go. Thanks for any help.
