Upgrading GW7: uninstall first?

When upgrading Windows XP clients from Groupwise 7.0.3 to 8.0.0 using MSI, how usefull is it to first uninstall GW7, knowing that the GW8 install will uninstall for you?
The GW7 install was also done with MSI, so I would uase msiexec /x to uninstall.
