Thank you for your swift replies, the problem was indeed with the MX Record & A Record on the hosted side. I have now created a mail.mycompany.net A & MX Record and matched that to the host A record within the GW and all is now fine.
Sometimes the most obvious things can be overlooked for he with little knowledge on DNS ;-)
