Default Questions Regarding "Archive"

for NetWare 5, GroupWise 5.5.1

i need to reduce the GroupWise databases, but am having a hard time
making
the network users (including my boss!) clean out their mailboxes ;-)

to make it easier, i was wondering:

- can users create multiple archives? (i.e. set the Archive Directory
to
'2001 Emails' and perform archive operation on a certain # of emails
--->
then set the Archive Directory to '2002 Emails' and perform the
archive
operation on more emails. then, if they ever need to get back in to
those
messages, change the Archive Directory to the appropriate location,
and Open
the different archives)

- can "Sent Items" be archived? i tried this morning on one of my
messages,
but it didn't seem to work: there was no "Sent Items" folder in my
archive,
and when i opened my archive (immediately after archiving a sent
item), i
was in the Mailbox Folder, and the Status Bar showed the message
"Finding
Items where Source is Sent..." for a LONG time, but i did not see any
Sent
Items even after waiting for about 10 mins.

- i seem to remember reading somewhere that archived email still
somehow
remains 'connected' (for lack of a better word) to the system
databases...
is that true? or can i safely burn the archives to CD to get them off
the
server altogether?

thanks in advance!
