unexpected hard returns inserted into mail message

Hi all -
I've got some users complaining that when they send an email message

the recipient is seeing hard carraige returns in the wrong places even

though they never hit [enter] at the ends of lines. So the
message
would appear like this. It looks unprofessional. Anyone know what
causes this and how to fix it?
