Can I stop the auto display of the conversation window?

There is no way to just show the notification (might be a good
enhancement). Just curious, why do you want some workstations to just
alert? if there was no conversation window how would you read the full
message or reply?

On some workstations I would like GW IM to only alert the user to an
incoming message and not display the conversation window. Is this
