Default iChain 2.3.5 on vSphere 4

Trying to create a VM for iChain, for a test box. Created a VM, chose IDE for the hard drive, chose a stndard NIC, set the CD to IDE 0.1, and pointed it to the ISO.

Powered it up - does the Caldera DOS boot, goes into the imaging screen, and then jumps to the iChain boot screen after imaging. Then, dots. Lots of them, never-ending.

Tried entering debug, as in this cool solution Cool Solutions: Installing iChain 2.1 on Unsupported Hardware
managed to get where I could Alt-Esc to the HWDetect screen, but I can't do anything, and 10 seconds later it ABENDs.

Next, I decide to follow this Cool Solutions: Installing iChain 2.2 in VMware Virtual Machine figuring that 2.2 and 2.3.5 have to be somewhat the same, since it's been years since I did the 2.2 to 2.3.5 upgrade. However, I can't figure out where to tell it I want to do a custom install. So, I'm stuck with a VM version of iChain that doesn't work, and I need to replace my existing ICS box really soon, as it's flaky.

Advice, links, help? Or, a pre-built VM that just needs activation?

Thanks,
Rich
