It does work on a fresh 11.1 with compat and libpng3 from repo.
Now I just have to figure out what the diff is to my other machines.

Just installed Designer 3.5 on two Opensuse 11.1 boxes, my old workhorse but also a new machine.
Installation works and designer starts if choosed after the installation but subsequent starts fail without any log as far as I can see.
Found a tid in the readme about installation and followed it without any success.
Also installed Eclipse from repository with the same result even without designer.
Has anyone seen this behavior ?
