question about a windows 2003 installation

I have used IDM at a prior job. I was using 3.5 and I installed it on a
Netware box. I am going to install it here, so I figured I would start with
the latest 3.6.1. I am going to sync edir to AD. If I install the
metadirectory server on windows 2003, I read where it has to have eDirectory
8.8.5 on it.

Can it also be on the Windows Domain?

Does it work better on one platform or the other? (Linux/Windows)
