The scenario that you present seems suitable to me. Users should probably be notified of errors, or if a printer isn't available to them.
What I don't understand is why the printers/profiles/drivers continue to get updated so frequently. In many cases, we haven't changed anything at all, yet the printers get uninstalled and re-installed several times per day on our clients. Shouldn't this only happen if we change the profile/driver?
Also, I've noticed that after I changed the "InformUserOfUpdates" flag to 0, all printers that are created anew do not notify users of updates, but all pre-existing printers, ie ones that were installed before the flag value changed, do continue to get updated. *shrug*

We have opened a defect for "auto driver/profile update" to consume InformUserOfUpdates flag and provide a silent update option. It should be available with the next client patch.
We are planning to disable all UIs that come in this process if the flag is set to 0. By all UIs I mean informing the user of the event, progress of the printer install and success message of the process completion. But in case of failure(say the printer gets removed due to some error scenario) the message will be thrown to user. Does that sound appropriate? Or do you think that the error message could also be an unnecessary distraction for the user.
