Default 'new' server - odd issue copying large files

We have just setup a new novell server to replace our old one. It is 4.11 patched with nw4sp9. I got all the files transfered and it seems to running great. (using backupexec and a dlt)

I was copying a bunch of files to a 2003 server as a backup. (about 44gb - this took around 3.5-4 hours which I don't remember what the old server would do - 100mb network) what was weird is I walked up to the server while it was doing the copy - the drives where not being accessed. I looked at the connection information for that user and the 'requests' were counting up - but the 'kilobytes read' were not going up. I noticed this would happen durring copying of large files - atleast 500gb that I noticed. The file transfers seemed to just stop for a bit. - usually a few 10s of seconds or more. Smaller files seemed to fly by no issues. There didn't seem to be an access issue with other clients - or high utillization.

Hope I am making sense..

(raid 5e - ibm xserver 1.133 ghz dual processor)

thanks
sam
