Default Re: tape drive

There are 2 potential problem areas for your server:
1) The processor. If you were trying to install NetWare 6.0 or NetWare 6.5 before SP5, than it would surely not work as only NetWare 6.5 SP5 started to support Intel processors based on the "core" microarchitecture". I think NetWare 5.1 was a bit less pickly and might possibly work, though possibly only without loading an MPS module and thus only running in uniprocessor mode using just one of your 4 cores.

2) The SAS controller. You didn't specify what controller this server is using, but given it is an IBM machine, I assume it is a RAID controller based on Adaptec technology and using the AACRAID.HAM driver. If this is the case, the controller will probably work, but the driver is known to have some quirks like for example strange long delays at server startup.

All in all, you might or you might not be able to run NetWare 5.1 on this server. However it is a type of server that only a fully patched NetWare 6.5 could really take advantage of. In other words, even if it works, the server is a bit wastedon NetWare 5.1.
