Default SYS volume data issues

I have an issue where random folders/files have disappeared from my SYS volume. I have a RAID 5 configuration with 6 drives.
It looks as if the drives are healthy, but it's hard for me to be sure. I inherited this server (I'm a Windows guy, mainly) so i don't know much about Novell.
However, I've tried to Salvage files - there are none to salvage.
I don't have a good backup, and the data I'm missing is crucial.

There is also an IDE drive loaded in the server, and I'm afraid it may have been spanned.

So:
1) How can i check volume health through Novell to ensure there are no underlying errors.

2) Is there a way for me to see what the setup of that IDE drive?

3) Any suggestions at all as to how I should proceed? I'm truly at a loss.

Thanks in advance for your help.
