I thought I had found an issue with SP3 but this appears to be p[resent
in SP2 as well..
We sell and install servers using the ASUS P5AD2-E Premium motherboard.
This motherboard has two Marvell Yukon Gigabit NICs on board. We have
not seen any issues with this hardware until just recently...
Using a clean install of NW65SP2 or NW65SP3, we are getting a continuous
stream of the following message at the console (one every couple of
seconds):
4-01-2005 6:10:26 am: YUKONNW-7.3-0
YUKONNW-NW-000-Adapter 1-Board 1:
1100: Hardware IP Checksum verification enabled by OS.
The rate at which these messages appear seems to correlate with the
amount of traffic on the wire. The busier the wire, the more frequent
these messages appear.
I have tried using the documented YUKONNW.LAN driver "QUIET=ON"
and "HWCSUM={ON/OFF}" parameters but they do not appear to have any
effect on throttling these messages.
I am curious why these messages are appearing and obviously what can be
done to silence them. The driver obviously is not being "Quiet" as
requested, and I expect these notifications are an indicator that some
type of configuration change is continually being requested of the NIC
which could obviously impact performance. I would also like to know why
the O/S keeps asking for this over and over again - shouldn't once be
enough?
I will be running a dozen of these systems in a Lab next week where we
will be demonstrating both
OES Linux and
OES Netware (NW65SP3) on the
boxes. It would obviously be of benefit to have this resolved by then...
Any help would be appreciated - please feel free to reply to my email if
anyone has any suggestions or additional questions.
