Hi! .
Some 10 months ago I set up a (fully patched) Netware 3.12 on a Dell
PowerEdge 750 Server
(Pentium 4 @ 2.8 MHz, 256 MB RAM, Serial ATA 80 GB HD). Works like a charm.
Last week I attempted to install the same version (3.12 fully patched) on
another server,
this time a Dell PowerEdge 850 (P4 @ 2.8 MHz, 512 RAM, Serial ATA 80 GB HD).
It crashes when
I try to partition the disk. As expected, Dell's tech support can't give any
insight (claiming that
their servers only work with the latest OS's only).
I gave up on it, but yesterday came across a reference in this same forum to
the site:
http://www.huweb.hu/maques/nwudma.htm. I tried the solution suggested here,
namely downloaded
patches-up versions of NBI and IDEATA.HAM. After tweaking for a while I can
get to the disk partitioning
screen, but the sizes reported (cylinders, size in MB, etc) are all
distorted, and I cannot proceed further.
Of course the patches to NBI31x.NLM are "unofficial", but at least they seem
to recognize (when I use the
load IDEATA.HAM /info switch) the Serial ATA Controller and even the HD's
geometry (it does report
a 80 GB Seagate disk).
Any suggestions? I'm about to install (sigh!) Win2003 Server, but is there
something worth giving a last shot ?
I appreciate any help on this issue.
