I've been seeing a similar problem with NSS volumes hosted on an iSCSI disk
array. Transfer rates from the NSS volumes on the array to the server's
local hard drive are around 3MB/s or less. Transfer rates from EXT2
formatted partitions on the array are more like 50MB/s.
Here's example timings writing from the NSS volume to the local disk with
NSS. bigfile is 1.4GB:
brain:/ # time cp /media/nss/DATA_VOL/bigfile .
real 6m54.681s
user 0m0.017s
sys 0m2.239s
brain:/ # time cp /media/nss/DATA_VOL/bigfile .
real 6m55.167s
user 0m0.031s
sys 0m2.171s
Here's results with an ext2 partition on the same array:
brain:/ # time cp /mnt/tmp/bigfile .
real 0m27.297s
user 0m0.145s
sys 0m10.775s
brain:/ # time cp /mnt/tmp/bigfile .
real 0m27.705s
user 0m0.132s
sys 0m10.629s
I've tested with NSS volumes on other iSCSI disk arrays, with the same
results. The owcimomd suggestion mentioned earlier had no effect.
Hardware is a dual processor IBM xSeries 335 w/ 1.5GB RAM.
I'd love to hear any suggestions.
Cheers,
A.
