I Guess the graphic configuration is not compatible with your graphics card or monitor. Was the system installed with a different monitor ?

Try to log in to runlevel 3 (textonly) or switch to a text console after startup with <alt>-<F1>

Then run "sax2" to reconfigure your graphics server
