I'm really interested why a 800Gb VMDK does not work and why NSS stops working.

Strange indeed... what's the blocksize you have set for the vmfs storage and how big is the vmfs volume itself? Could be these are factors.

It might be an idea to post a thread in the VMware communities forum. I'd be very interested in knowing the outcome! ;)

If I get the chance, I'll try testing a similar setup and see how that reacts. Same goes if I find some more info on this.
