I use a NSS formatted USB stick for that.

What makes it really tricky for some is that HP only offers the driver
as a monolithic NLM instead of the necessary ham and ddi files. One can
actually extract these from the NLM with any better ZIP prgram like
winzip or 7-zip (I know you know that, but many don't).
