Default Applied SP8 to a NW 6.5.7 server, had a PKI problem, and now can't get the server to boot properly

How can I get a Service Pack to stop trying to finish it's install?

I have a client with a classic Netwrae 6.5.7 server that I wanted to
apply SP8.

I started the SP8 installation, and it copied all the files and
restarted. It then copies the Java files, and starts the graphic
environment and wants to upgrade the eDirectory. Then it runs into a
PKI error creating or updating the CA Certificate Authority. So I
cancelled.

When I restart the server, it wants to keep finishing this part of the
install. I have renamed the NWINST.TMP directory, but it that has
broken the startup effort. How can I get the SP to stop trying to run?
