Backup to Removable Disk Solution Needed

I'm looking for any solution that would back up all files (including open files) from NSS volumes on a SAN Array to removable disk storage. It would be preferable to have the files in native format and not in a block format that requires a restore.
Also I would prefer not to run the backup software from a Microsoft server using agents to connect to an OES server.

I've looked at many solutions so far but none meet these specifications.

If you have any ideas, links, or solutions could you please post them here for me to check out.
