Default Local rsync

I'm trying to test out using rsync to backup to a locally attached removeable eSata drive on a Netware 6.6 server. I was able to get it working using commands similar to these...
Rsyncself - CoolSolutionsWiki
but that uses rsync running as a daemon listening on a port, with the client connecting to that port for the transfer. I'm assuming it would go faster if I could just go straight from my DATA: volume to my BACKUP: volume, but I'm not having any luck getting rsync to work in that manner. I've seen some examples of rsync working that way for linux, but can't figure out how to specify both the source and target Netware volume name. Anyone ever use rsync for a local backup?

Thanks,
Greg
