AFP Migration

We are migrating two Netware 6.5 servers to SLES 10 with OES SP1 next month. I realise that there is a lack of AFP support until OES SP2 is released, however we are being pushed to upgrade to SLES10 so would like to be recommended an alternative to AFP for the time being before SP2 is set.

We've thought about netatalk, is this generally recommended?

Also, is there any possibility in keeping the old Netware servers live to provide afp access? How would this be done?
