Default gnomesu failure. 'No services for libgnomesu are available.'

G'day

We use Novell SLED 10.0. After installation I am having trouble running some
applications using gnome-control-center (they start up fine on their own). For
instance starting 'Graphics card control' (I think sax2) fails with the
following error

** (gnomesu:25909): CRITICAL **: No services for libgnomesu are available.

These messages are seen only when gnome-control-center is started from start
menu. Otherwise there is no feedback and the application doesn't load either.
Other applications that require super user access (Yast2) also fail with similar
messages.

I have googled around, and the only explanation I could find was gnomesu
requires console centre, PAM, su services (either of them) and they are not
configured correctly. Although a regular linux user I don't understand the
concept of 'service' used here. Is it a daemon? Anyway I don't see any of these
daemons running. Could someone guide me on resolving this issue?

gnomesu-pam file output.

bilby # more /etc/pam.d/gnomesu-pam
#%PAM-1.0
auth sufficient pam_rootok.so
auth include common-auth
account include common-account
password include common-password
session include common-session
session optional pam_xauth.so

Thanks
