SLED 10.2 NVidia Driver 6/3/2009 - broken again
Last time I posted about a problem with the SLED NVidia driver, the Nvidia ftp site was updated with the 180.51 driver. (See my previous post on 6/3)
It worked just fine until about 3 days ago, where now the 180.51 driver no longer works. (G02) Was there a kernel update or other update that broke the driver? After doing an install, I update and the update curiously chooses the G01 driver (The Quadro 140M NVS driver is not included in G01, only in G02).
Obviously the X server doesn't start with the G01 driver, so I remove it manually in Yast and install the G02 package. The X Server refuses to start again with "can't find screen".
If I remove the G02 package and manually install the Nvidia package via the Nvidia installer, it works fine. As I've stated before in previous posts, using the Nvidia installer is not acceptable in our environment.
For an "Enterprise Class" OS, you guys are really dropping the ball lately. Enough for us to consider a switch to RHEL ... we are a large government HPC environment ... strictly SuSE and as of late the experience has been terrible. Including your decision to include the disaster that is KDE 4 with SLED 11.
