SLED 11 and Modem

Can anyone help me out on setting up a modem connection on SLED 11? I have a Laptop setup with SLED 11 and use it solely to administer the network. I use a modem to dial out to an outside ISP and check all web services from the outside. It's slow, but it's all I need. We have field people all over the place, on many different networks, and it helps troubleshoot if their connection problem lies with us or the network they are going through. Anyway, I have a PCIMCIA Hayes Optima 33.6 modem installed. I can't seem to find how to manually connect it to an ISP. I'm not even sure if the system is seeing it correctly. I just added all the newest updates this week. I would really hate having to go back to Windows. Any help will be appreciated.
