Default Re-install on a New Lenovo ThinkPad T61 with SLED 10?

Hi there,

I just got (last week), my ThinkPad T61 (Intel T8100 CPU, integrated graphics - Intel chipset) with SLED 10 preinstalled. Ordered directly from Lenovo web site. Lenovo technical support turned me down and directed me to Novell.

I have a problem with the partitioning of that hard drive. Problem is that partitioning is pretty bad for me - root partition has about 10GB, and home around 145GB or so (it's 160GB drive).

I have installed Novel Linux SDK and other stuff, and now I'm running very tight on that root partition space. Up to the point that I need to expand it, or I'm blocked.

There was a DVD that came in the box, it's from January 2008 DVD P/N 44Y2624 Lenovo Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10.

If I use it to repartition the harddrive (so that root partition gets much, much more space, and home much, much less), will I be able to get back to the stage where I am now, using that DVD? What is 'Restore System' option on it?

If I run "Restore system", would that override my new partition table, or simply set up the system as it currently is (I mean, to be able to control laptop power, manage sleep / hibernate modes, without hassle), without brining partitions back as they originally were when laptop was shipped?

Any other suggestions? It seems that LVM is not set up on the laptop, so it cannot be used, without re-partitioning...

Thank you for some insights...

Robertino
